Alyssa and Jon’s Latrobe’s on Royal Wedding

Alyssa and Jon are the epitome of college sweethearts. They met during their freshman year at Tulane University and have been inseparable ever since. Jon supported Alyssa through her year-long battle with breast cancer and moved to New York City with her when she landed her dream job as the online fashion editor for Marie Claire Magazine. After their rooftop first look with a view of the charming French Quarter in the crisp Fall weather, the two said “I Do” at the New Orleans landmark, St. Louis Cathedral, in front of 200 of their family and friends. From the ceremony, guests participated in a traditional New Orleans second line to the reception venue, Latrobe’s on Royal, where the celebration continued into the night.

Alyssa approached our company with her mother, Beth, not long after she first got engaged. Having attended Tulane University for her undergraduate education, and also being the place where she and Jon first met and began dating, Alyssa immediately knew a destination wedding to New Orleans would be the best reflection of the couple for their guests. Alyssa wanted a fun, authentic New Orleans wedding experience, and knew right away that the French Quarter would be the ideal start to find their wedding venue.

Alyssa was living in New York City and planning her wedding from afar, while her mother, living at home in Virginia, was also involved in the planning process. We scheduled a date where both would be able to fly into town so we could schedule two days of site visits throughout town. Our team of expert planners set up appointments at various venues we thought would fit the bill: cocktail style reception for 200 guests within second-line parade distance from the St. Louis Cathedral, where they had booked the ceremony to take place.

After viewing several properties that were great options, Alyssa walked in to Latrobe’s on Royal and immediately felt a wave of emotion overcome her. She walked from the entryway to the covered courtyard, taking in all of the details of the historic architecture, the stone floor underfoot, and the thoughtful touches like gas lanterns and wrought iron chandeliers throughout the space set the tone for the moody, romantic celebration she was hoping for. Walking further into the venue, she passed the old bank vault-turned-built-in bar (the building originally served as the Louisiana State Bank, designed by architect Benjamin Latrobe) and into the grand banking room with its soaring whisper dome and massive windows.

She immediately knew this was the venue for her, and our team helped design a fashion-forward, sleek and romantic celebration at Latrobe’s that exceeded all of Alyssa’s expectations. We loved collaborating with this mother-daughter planning duo, and it was a pleasure (as always) to send Alyssa down the aisle to wed the love of her life. And to see the look on her parents’ faces as they watched their daughter throughout the day was priceless!
